A native of Rusk, located in East Texas, Jeanne Waggener received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy in 1972 from The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy.  She practiced in community pharmacy for seventeen years with ten of those years being in a professional setting before joining Wal-Mart Pharmacy in 1989.

Her professional memberships include the Texas Pharmacy Association and the Heart of Texas Pharmacy Association.  She currently serves as a member of the Advisory Council for the Texas State Technical College Pharmacy Technician Program.  Since 2005, she has also served as a member of the Texas Health and Human Services Commission Drug Use Review (DUR) Board.  

Mrs. Waggener has been very involved in both community and church organizations throughout her career. After seeing the impact that science fair competition had on her son’s life, Mrs. Waggener decided to devote her efforts into ensuring that middle and high school students in grades 6 through 12 would have the same opportunity afforded her son.  She became involved with the Central Texas Science and Engineering Fair where she has served as President of the Board of Trustees since 1997.  She has also served as the Institutional Review Board Chairperson of the ExxonMobil Texas Science and Engineering Fair, and in 2004 was elected as the Chairperson of the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) Advisory Council.  Mrs. Waggener was also selected by Science Service, the nonprofit educational organization who conducts the Intel ISEF, to serve on the Best Practices Committee to assist in the management of science fairs at all levels.  In 2004 as a result of her commitment to excellence in science and involvement in the community as a volunteer she was awarded the first Outstanding Performance Award given by Wal-Mart Pharmacy. She has served on the Federation Board of Texas A&M Mothers Clubs and the Board of Directors of the Junior League of Waco. She has served as Parsonage Chairperson and is an Usher Captain at Austin Avenue United Methodist Church in Waco. 

Mrs. Waggener is married to a dentist, Dr. Tommy Waggener, and has one son, Jay Sartain, a banker with the Royal Bank of Canada in Houston.
